BOKO HARAM FIGHTERS DRESSED IN MILITARY UNIFORM KILL OVER 21 NIGERIAN SOLDIERS IN BORNO

Over 21 soldiers were killed in an ambush on Tuesday, July 7, along Damboa- Maiduguri road by Boko Haram terrorists dressed in military uniform.

Sources say the soldiers were on their way to Maiduguri.

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters confirmed the ambush but reported that only two soldiers died.

According to a press statement signed by the coordinator of the defence military operations, John Enenche, the valiant troops outflanked and engaged the terrorists forcing them to withdraw.

"In the aftermath of the encounter, 17 Boko Haram/Islamic State's West Africa Province criminals were neutralized as several others were believed to have narrowly escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds while a cache of arms and ammunition were equally captured by the gallant troops. Regrettably, 2 valiant soldiers paid the supreme price while 4 others were wounded in action. However, the wounded in action soldiers have been evacuated to a military medical facility and currently responding positively to treatment," the statement read.

The statement released by the Defence Headquarters contradicts reports from sources on the frontline.

Reliable sources told Eons Intelligence that the soldiers that were killed in the Damboa- Maiduguri attack were definitely more than 21.

Nigeria has been in a decade-long war with the Islamic terror group which has claimed the lives of more than 37,500 people and displaced 2.5 million people, according to the Council of Foreign Relations' Global Conflict Tracker.

The Nigeria Army has, in recent times, recorded tremendous success in annihilating the terrorist sect.

Many of the Boko Haram camps have been bombarded by the Nigeria Army and the Troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE under the leadership of Lt.Gen. Yusufu Tukur Buratai, as well as the Civilian Joint Task Force and other security agencies, are closing in on the location of the leader of the sect.
