EBONYI GOVERNMENT IMPOSES CURFEW ON EFFIUM COMMUNITY OVER NURTW BLOODY CLASH

David Umahi, Ebonyi State Governor has imposed curfew on Effium Community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the State over the bloody clash that ensued in the area.


The curfew will start from 4pm to 8am on a daily basis with effect from Sunday, 24th January, 2021, until normalcy is restored to the affected community.


Many houses and shops were razed and scores were killed on Saturday in the Effium due to leadership tussle among members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the area.


This was disclosed in a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr Uchenna Orji on Sunday.

Orji urged security agencies to ensure strict enforcement, and to deal decisively with any person or group of persons involved in killings and or destruction of property in the area.


The statement reads, “The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi FNSE FNATE deeply frowns at the unabated violence and wanton destruction of lives and property in Effium community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.


“In his determination to restore peace and order, the Governor has imposed a curfew in Effium community from 4pm to 8am on daily basis with effect from Sunday, 24th January, 2021, until normalcy returns to the affected community.


“The Governor further directs the Security Agencies to ensure the strict enforcement of the curfew and to deal decisively with any person or group of persons involved in killings and or destruction of property of the people no matter whose ox is gored.”
