Breaking: Ogun Assembly Minority Leader Abducted During Local Election

The Minority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Lukman Adeleye, was reportedly abducted by gunmen on Saturday while casting his vote at Ward 15 in Ibefun, Odogbolu Local Government Area, during the state’s local government election.

Reports indicate that Adeleye was allegedly taken to Ilese Barracks by individuals believed to be military personnel. Early investigations suggest the incident may have been orchestrated by a powerful individual.

Hon. Olujimi Oloja, Director-General of Adeleye’s campaign organization, confirmed the lawmaker’s detention in military custody and condemned what he described as military interference in the electoral process.

“This is a direct attack on democratic principles,” Oloja said. “Despite our efforts to secure his release, officers at the barracks insist he will remain detained until the electoral process is concluded.”

Oloja assured the public that Adeleye is safe and emphasized that efforts are underway to facilitate his release. He also criticized the use of intimidation and force during elections, labeling such actions as violations of fundamental rights.

Adeleye, a staunch advocate for community development and education, has held several positions within the People's Democratic Party (PDP), including Local Government Organising Secretary. Once released, he is expected to address the public on the situation.
