CAPITOL VIOLENCE: HOUSE PREPARED TO LAUNCH IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS AGAINST TRUMP IF VICE PRESIDENT PENCE REFUSE TO DO SO- NANCY PELOSI

The Speaker of the United States of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi on Sunday night wrote a letter to colleagues stating that the House is prepared to launch impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump if Vice President Mike Pence and the cabinet do not remove Trump from office for inciting a mob that attacked the Capitol


In the letter, Pelosi stated that during Monday’s plenary, Majority Leader Hoyer will request Unanimous Consent to bring up the Raskin resolution that calls on Vice President Pence to convene and mobilize the Cabinet to activate the 25th Amendment to declare the Donald Trump incapable of executing the duties of his office.

“If we do not receive Unanimous Consent, this legislation is planned to be brought up on the Floor the following day. We are calling on the Vice President to respond within 24 hours.”


However, if Pence and the cabinet fail to impeach Trump, Pelosi stated that the House “will proceed with bringing impeachment legislation to the floor.”


Madam Speaker stated that the House would act with urgency, adding that Donald Trump represents an imminent threat to America’s Constitution and Democracy. 


 “As the days go by, the horror of the ongoing assault on our democracy perpetrated by this President is intensified and so is the immediate need for action,” Pelosi wrote.

President Donald Trump is due to leave office on January 20. Trump, who up till now has refused to admit defeat or concede to Joe Biden agreed to an orderly transition of power.


“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th… While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again,” President Trump said in a statement on Thursday, January 7 a day after his supporters out a deadly assault on the seat of American government.
