Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen Lucky Irabor has expressed satisfaction with the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) for what he described as their outstanding performance in the quest to restore peace and security to the country in the face of a lingering banditary and insurgency.
The CDS made this remark in Abuja on Saturday to commemorate the new year celebration. He praised the men for their loyalty, doggedness, endurance, courage, and gallantry in keeping the nation safe and secure, despite the daunting challenges.
Gen Irabor said the troops have shown resilience and courage in the face of dangers while surmounting the myriad of security threats being faced at these critical times.
He said: "In retrospect, the end of 2021 affords the AFN the unique opportunity to remember the sacrifices of it's men and women who work in extreme conditions in trenches, in fields and in far-flung places away from the comfort of their loved ones to keep Nigerians safe and secure."
He added that the AFN has continuously discharged its constitutional responsibilities in a professional manner, in the light of violent, irregular, complex, and manifestations of contemporary as well as evolving security challenges.
He said the Federal Government will continue to provide the essential requirements of the troops in the new year. He urged personnel to continue to cherish esprit de corps in the conduct of their duties at all times.
He also eulogised the Nation’s fallen heroes like the late former Chief of Army Staff, General Ibrahim Attahiru. He said the AFN will never forget their sacrifices and service to the country.
He also urged troops of the AFN to maintain good health, personal happiness and success in the new year.
