COVID-19 CASES ARE ACCELERATING DUE TO POLITICIZATION - WHO
The global COVID-19 pandemic is accelerating and has been exacerbated by politicization, the World Health Organization's Director-General said.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said this, on Monday, June 22, while speaking at a virtual health forum organized by the World Government Summit, in Dubai.
Ghebreyesus said the lack of global solidarity and global leadership is the greatest threat facing the world amid the fight against Coronavirus.
"We cannot defeat this pandemic with a divided world.
The politicization of the pandemic has exacerbated it. None of us is safe until all of us are safe," he said.
The WHO boss noted that despite the lockdown imposed by Governments, the disease still spreads rapidly.
According to the WHO, the disease has killed more than 456,000 people and infected no fewer than nine million worldwide.
Ghebreyesus noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected different sectors of countries affected.
"We know that the pandemic is much more than a health crisis, it is an economic crisis, a social crisis, and in many countries a political crisis," he added.
