LIGHTNING STRIKES THREE PERSONS TO DEATH IN EBONYI

Three persons were struck dead by lightning in Afikpo, Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.


The incident happened on Friday, July 9, at about 3pm in the afternoon.

 

It was gathered that there was a heavy rainfall which was accompanied by lightning at the time of the incident.

A resident of the area who confirmed the tragic news said that one of the victims was from Cross Rivers State, adding that he had lived in the community for a long time.

 

He said, “The lightning occurred in two different places. It killed 2 people in Ngodo community and another person in another place. One of those that was killed is from Cross River State who settled in Afikpo,”

 

Egwu, the Youth President of Egeburu-Amaokwiri in the area, said the heavy downpour lasted for over 5 hours before the lightning struck and killed the victims. He, however, said only 2 persons were struck dead.

 

“The rain was very heavy to the extent that the villagers couldn’t go out on that day. No one was able to do business. It is a tragic incident indeed, “he said.


He said that the corpses of the victims have been deposited in a mortuary and that they will be laid to rest in the coming days.
