COVID-19: NIGERIA RECORDS 24 NEW DEATHS, SECOND HIGHEST DAILY FATALITY
Nigeria on Friday recorded 24 new deaths from COVID-19, the country’s second highest daily death toll since the first case of the virus was reported last February.
On 29th January 2021, Nigeria recorded its highest daily death tally of 27 to surpass the previous record of 23 deaths reported on 14th January 2021.
According to the latest data provided by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the deaths from COVID-19 have increased to 1,734.
Also, 1,005 additional cases were recorded in 18 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) raising the total Coronavirus infection to 144,521.
The 1,005 new cases were reported from 19 states: Lagos (204), Kwara (155), Oyo (124), Plateau (80), FCT (75), Edo (56), Osun (48), Ondo (41), Kaduna (40), Rivers (40), Taraba (35), Borno (32), Ekiti (21), Ogun (20), Kano (14), Bayelsa (8), Delta (7), Bauchi (3) and Jigawa (2).
Lagos had the highest toll in Friday’s tally with 204 new cases, followed by Kwara and Oyo with 155 and 124 infections respectively.
Meanwhile, Lagos State is still the epicenter of the infection in Nigeria with 52,722 confirmed cases. 48,188 patients have been discharged after receiving treatment while 362 have lost their lives to the deadly virus.
Of the 144,521 total cases, a total of 118, 866 patients have been discharged after being treated at various hospitals and isolation centres across the country.
"Our discharges today include 408 community recoveries in Lagos State and 99 community recoveries in Plateau State managed in line with guidelines," NCDC said.
Meanwhile, there are nearly 25,000 patients still receiving treatments in isolation centers.
Since the pandemic broke out in February last year, the country has carried out over 1.3 million tests.
