COVID-19: USAIN BOLT TESTS POSITIVE, QUARANTINES (VIDEO)

World-record sprinter and eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt has tested positive for coronavirus.

The athlete is currently in self-quarantine at his home in Jamaica.

Bolt, who turned 34 on Friday, was filmed singing and dancing at the outdoor mask-free and no social distancing compliance party with a large number of guests.

He took a coronavirus test on Saturday and was confirmed as having tested positive on Monday.

The retired 100m and 200m World-record holder, in a video posted on Twitter, did not confirm his test result, however, urged anyone who has contact with him to go into quarantine.

“I did a test on Saturday to leave (Jamaica) because I have work. I am trying to be responsible so I am going to stay in and be safe.

“Also, I am having no symptoms, I will quarantine myself and wait on the confirmation to see what is the protocol and to see how I go about quarantining myself from the Ministry of Health.

“Until then, I will call my friends and tell them once they came in contact with me to be safe, quarantine and take it easy,” said Bolt.

Meanwhile, the Jamaica Observer, health and wellness Minister, Christopher Tufton confirmed late on Monday that the Olympic champion had tested positive.

Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness, during a virtual news conference, also said police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Bolt’s birthday party.

“There are reports of an activity related to Usain Bolt.

“These matters are all being thoroughly investigated and the police will give a report on these matters in near future," Holness said.

Jamaica has banned gatherings of more than 20 people, ordered people to wear masks, and brought in mandatory social distancing rules, but only in public places.
