DSS WARNS AGAINST PLANS TO INCITE ETHNO-RELIGIOUS VIOLENCE IN SOME STATES
The Department of State Services (DSS) has warned against plans by some persons and groups to cause ethno-religious violence in some states in Nigeria.
Recall, on January 11, Eons Intelligence reported that the DSS alerted Nigerians that some elements working with external forces were planning to stir up religious violence in Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Rivers, Oyo, Lagos and States in the South-East region.
In a statement by the DSS Spokesperson, Peter Afunaya, on Wednesday February 3, the plotters are disregarding this warning.
He said the elements want to 'exploit some fault lines' to unleash mayhem in Nigeria, causing inter-religious conflicts, and attacking some worship centres, religious leaders, and key personalities.
Afunaya warned Nigerians to be on alert and steer clear of all antics aimed at causing inter-religious conflicts.
The spokesperson noted that the DSS vows to partner with other security agencies in ensuring peace and order in the country. It also warned those orchestrating these plots to desist from such in the interest of peace, security and development of the country.
“For the umpteenth time, the Service strongly warns these elements to desist forthwith from their (planned) nefarious acts or face the full wraths of the law.
“The DSS will, in collaboration with other security and law enforcement agencies, take necessary steps to ensure the safety of lives and property of the citizenry," Afunaya said.
