Troops Rescue Kidnap Victim, Recover Weapons in Benue Operation

Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued a kidnap victim and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a successful operation in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

Acting on credible intelligence, troops deployed in Katsina-Ala, in collaboration with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard (BSCPG), launched a swift operation on suspected armed bandits believed to be responsible for a series of kidnappings around Agera Nagu in Mbagina, Michihe Council Ward.

On arrival at the scene, the troops engaged the criminals in a fierce gun duel, forcing them to flee in disarray. During the operation, the soldiers rescued Mr. Teryima Torbee, a 43-year-old man, who was found unharmed.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one FN rifle, five magazines, and 83 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition. Security forces have since intensified patrols to maintain calm and prevent further criminal activities in the community.

The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, praised the troops for their professionalism and swift response, which ensured the safe rescue of the victim and recovery of the weapons. He also commended the cooperation of the Civil Protection Guard and urged residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies, stressing that community support is crucial in defeating criminal gangs and restoring lasting peace.

Major General Gara reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Whirl Stroke to sustain aggressive operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements from Benue State and neighbouring areas.
