Lakurawa-Linked Violence: Six Dead, Many Injured in Kebbi Youths' Retaliatory Attack
About six people lost their lives, and numerous others sustained injuries following an attack by local youths on Fulani residents in the Mera community, Augie Local Government Area, Kebbi State, on Sunday evening.
According to reports, the attack was allegedly sparked by accusations linking certain Fulani individuals to recent bandit raids in the area. The violence escalated when a survivor from Friday’s bandit assault identified familiar faces among the attackers, reportedly known locally as “Lakurawa.”
In response to this information, the community youths retaliated, leading to the deaths of six Fulani residents and injuring many others.
Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, describing it as a “reprisal by angry youths.” Abubakar added that law enforcement personnel had been deployed to the area to prevent further unrest.
“We have deployed personnel to the area to calm the situation,” he stated, assuring residents that efforts were ongoing to restore peace in the community.
