FG RECEIVES RUSSIA'S COVID-19 VACCINE SAMPLE

The Federal Government on Friday, September 4, received the samples of Russia's COVID-19 vaccine. 


Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire received the samples from the Russia Ambassador to Nigeria, Alexey Shebarshin in Abuja. 


Olujimi Oyetomi, Director, Information, Media and Public Relations made this known in a statement released on Friday.


"Russian Federation Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E Alexey L. Shebarshin on courtesy visit to Nigeria's Health Ministers, Russian-made COVID-19 Vaccine finally here," he said.

Russia announced in August that it had produced a COVID-19 vaccine that is available for public use.

A data published in the medical journal The Lancet on Friday, September 4 stated that Rusia's vaccine generated neutralizing antibodies in dozens of study objects. 


However, Nigeria Health Authorities in May said that all COVID 19 vaccines would be tested in the country before it gets approved to be administered on its citizens. 


 Speaking on Russia's vaccine, the Nigeria Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire said the country is exploring all knowledge in terms of "therapeutics & vaccines". 


"We are at a point where we have a joint venture with the private sector".
