MADAGASCAR GOVERNMENT SACKS ITS MINISTER OF HEALTH
The Madagascar Government has sacked the country's Minister of Health, Ahmad Ahmad, as part of its cabinet reshuffle.
His exit was announced on Thursday, August 20th, 2020, in a statement signed by the Country's Ministerial Cabinet Secretary, Valery Rakonjavelo.
This comes one month after the Minister sought for help from outside the country to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
As hospitals in Madagascar raised concern about lack of bedspace for COVID-19 patients, the sacked Minister wrote a letter in July to international agencies to send equipment to the country.
Madagascar experienced a spike in COVID-19 cases last month despite an official unveiling of a herbal drink touted as a remedy for the virus.

The drink, COVID-19 Organics, has been widely distributed in Madagascar and sold to several countries on the continent.
However, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that there is no published scientific research to validate claims for the herbal mixture.
Scientists in Europe and America have also stated the potential risks of consuming untested and unvalidated concoctions.
Recall that on July 3rd, 2020, Nigeria's Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, said the Madagascar COVID-19 formulation is a malaria drug and cannot cure COVID-19.
Jean Louis Hanitrala Rakotovao has been named the new Health Minister immediately.
