Explosion Rocks Bayelsa State Secretariat, 60-Year-Old Arrested
A suspected bomb exploded at the Bayelsa State Secretariat Complex in Yenagoa early Wednesday morning, February 11, 2026, around 6:00 AM. The blast, believed to be from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), prompted immediate action from the Bayelsa State Police.
Bayelsa State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Musa Muhammed, confirmed the incident, stating that a 60-year-old man was arrested at the scene. The arrested individual, identified as Pentecost Elijah from Otuan Community in Southern Ijaw LGA, is currently being interrogated.
Upon arrival, the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Unit, alongside other security teams, swiftly contained the situation. The area was cordoned off, and another unexploded device was discovered and safely defused. No casualties or property damage were reported.
The police commissioner, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, led the response and assured the public that normalcy has been restored. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect is expected to face charges in court. Authorities urge residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities.
