Police Debunks Rumour on Injured Officer, Clarifies Recruitment Standards

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has refuted social media claims alleging that an injured officer is among the newly passed-out constables and was unfit for service due to impaired vision. In a statement released on Tuesday, the Force clarified that the officer in question sustained his injury in the line of duty and was not part of the latest police recruits.

According to the NPF, the constable had met all required recruitment standards and was in top physical condition at the time of his enlistment. However, two years ago, he suffered a gunshot injury to his left eye during an operational mission. The police described the incident as an unfortunate occupational hazard, emphasizing the officer’s bravery and dedication to duty.

“The Nigeria Police Force maintains rigorous recruitment and training standards, ensuring that only candidates who meet the physical and medical requirements are enlisted,” the statement read. “The constable’s injury was sustained while courageously carrying out his duty, not as a result of any oversight in recruitment.”

The police further assured that the officer has received full support throughout his recovery process. They also urged the public and media to desist from spreading misinformation that could tarnish the reputation of the Force and its personnel.

“The commitment and sacrifices of our officers should be acknowledged, not misrepresented,” the statement concluded.

The NPF reaffirmed its dedication to upholding professionalism in its recruitment and operations while ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians.
