We’re Open to Talks — Sokoto Govt Reaches Out to Bandits Seeking Peace
The Sokoto State Government has declared its willingness to engage in dialogue with armed groups ready to renounce violence and reintegrate into society peacefully.
This position was outlined in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, retired Colonel Ahmed Usman, who emphasized that peace and security remain top priorities for the state. He noted that while force is sometimes necessary, history has shown that many conflicts are ultimately resolved through dialogue and reconciliation.
“Most of the conflicts in the history of the world were solved by more than force. This is why the state government would like to keep its doors wide open to any bandit that would like to lay down arms and be reintegrated into society peacefully,” the statement read.
The government also expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, national security chiefs, and frontline military and police personnel for their continued efforts to protect lives and property across the region.
“We appreciate their commitment. May Allah have mercy on the souls of those who lost their lives in the line of duty and grant their families the strength to bear the loss,” the statement added.
