PROTEST AGAINST BUHARI'S APPOINTMENT OF LAURETTA ONOCHIE AS INEC NATIONAL COMMISSIONER - GOVERNOR NYESOM WIKE URGES #ENDSARS PROTESTERS (VIDEO)

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has urged #ENDSARS protesters to protest against the appointment of Lauretta Onochie, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, as the National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

Governor Wike warned that Buhari's appointment of his media aide is a clear indication of the President's plan to rig the 2023 Presidential Election.

Governor Wike made this allegation while addressing #ENDSARS protesters in his state on Tuesday, October 13.

Rivers State residents on Tuesday, trooped out en masse to protest against police brutality, unlawful incarceration and extortion perpetrated by the Special Anti Robbery Squad unit SARS.

The Rivers State Governor who earlier banned the citizens from staging a protest joined the protesters on Tuesday and encouraged them to also speak out against the President's decision to appoint Lauretta Onochie his Personal Assistant on Social Media, as the Commissioner for INEC.

"How will INEC be independent when the President has appointed his own aide, and nobody is protesting against it?"

"As you are protesting, for the police to be reformed, you must also protest, Mr President, you cannot bring your own aide as commissioner in INEC... That is rigging, they have started rigging against 2023," Governor Wike said.

Human Rights Lawyer and Political Analyst Femi Falana condemned Mrs Onochie's appointment noting that she is constitutionally disqualified from the membership of the Independent National Electoral Commission based on the fact that she is a card-carrying member of a political party.

The leading opposition party, PDP, also described the development as "provocative, ominous and an attack on the constitution and democratic practices."
