FCT Police Arrest Ex-Guard, Accomplice Over Deadly Asokoro Robbery
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has apprehended two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate allegedly responsible for the killing of a security guard and the theft of valuables during an attack in Asokoro, Abuja.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the arrests were made following a report that gunmen stormed a residence in Asokoro in January 2026. During the incident, a security guard was killed, while cash, a vehicle and other valuables were taken.
She explained that operatives of the command’s Scorpion Squad carried out an intelligence-driven operation that led to the arrest of two key suspects — Amaechi Edemba, 46, and Kelechi Nwokoro, 48 — between February 12 and 19, 2026.
Preliminary findings indicate that Nwokoro had previously worked as a security guard for the homeowner but was dismissed in January 2026 over alleged negligence. Investigators allege he later teamed up with Edemba and recruited four additional accomplices from Nasarawa State to execute the robbery.
Police said the former guard allegedly used his familiarity with the property to disable the CCTV system and cut off power supply before guiding the armed group into the house. During the operation, the on-duty guard, identified as Ishaku Marcus, reportedly confronted the attackers but was overpowered and strangled.
The suspects allegedly fled with cash, jewellery, laptops, wrappers and a silver Toyota Camry, among other items.
According to the police, the stolen vehicle and several exhibits have since been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang still at large.
