Five Wedding Travellers Kidnapped as Bandits Strike Ogbe- Egbe Road
Bandits have abducted five travellers and injured one other person during an attack along the Ogbe–Egbe road in Kogi State, triggering fear and tension across nearby communities.
The incident occurred on Friday along the Ogbe–Koro boundary, when the victims were travelling from Ogbe to Egbe to attend a wedding ceremony. According to local sources, the travellers were ambushed by armed men suspected to be bandits, who opened fire on the vehicle.
One person was shot during the attack and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment, while five others were forcibly taken into the surrounding bush by the attackers. As of the time of reporting, the identities of the injured victim and the abducted persons had not been officially confirmed.
Following the incident, residents of Ogbe, Egbe, and neighbouring communities expressed growing concern over what they described as worsening insecurity along rural roads in the area. Community members said the Ogbe–Egbe axis has increasingly become unsafe, particularly for people travelling for social events or routine inter-village movement.
Residents have appealed to security agencies and the Kogi State Government to urgently increase patrols along the affected route and carry out sustained security operations in nearby forests where the attackers reportedly escaped. They stressed that stronger security presence is needed to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among road users.
The attack adds to rising concerns over banditry and kidnapping incidents across parts of the North-Central region, as communities continue to call for more proactive measures to protect lives and property.
