Four Soldiers Feared Dead as Suspected Drunk Driver Rams into Troops in Lagos
Four soldiers attached to Myoung Barracks in the Morocco area of Shomolu, Lagos, are feared dead, while several others sustained injuries after a suspected drunk driver crashed into them during a routine morning jog.
The tragic event occurred in the early hours of Friday during the soldiers' monthly road jogging exercise outside the barracks.
Eyewitness Priscilla, a resident of the area, recounted the scene, stating that a Toyota vehicle carrying three young men was speeding when it rammed into the soldiers.
"The soldiers were on their usual morning road walk when the car plowed into them. Four soldiers lost their lives on the spot, and many others were seriously injured."
Following the crash, the occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee, but enraged onlookers apprehended and assaulted them, vandalizing their car.
"The young men tried to escape but were caught and mercilessly beaten. One of them was even stabbed by the soldiers," Priscilla added.
The incident has sparked fear and panic among residents, who worry about possible repercussions.
As of the time of filing this report, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Olabisi Ayeni, and Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, had yet to respond to inquiries.
