WE WOULD NOT SHUT DOWN SOCIAL MEDIA, WE WOULD REGULATE IT - FG

The Federal Government has said it would regulate the use of social media by Nigerians.

Lai Mohammed, Nigeria's Minister of Information and Culture, made the announcement in an #ENDSARS press briefing on Thursday, November 19.

He said the Government has no plans to shut down the internet or social media, but it would work with relevant stakeholders to regulate it.

The Minister stated that social media was used wrongly to cause mayhem in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protest.

He noted that the move was imperative to curb the spread of hate speech and fake news from Nigerians.
