#ENDSARS: LAGOS PANEL SUMMONS DOLAPO BADMUS, FORMER LAGOS POLICE PRO OVER BRUTALIZED PETITIONER

The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS related Abuses and other related matters has summoned the former spokesperson of the State Police Command, Dolapo Badmus to identify a police officer who allegedly brutalized a petitioner.

Ms. Badmus was summoned after a petitioner, Olajide Fowotade alleged that the ex-spokesperson is aware of an offence committed against him in 2017 by a policeman identified as Ayo Aduku attached to Ketu Police station.

During his submission to the panel on Saturday, December 29, Fowotade claimed that the policeman beat him up and removed his front teeth during an altercation along Ketu-Ikosi road while he was returning from his workplace.

He said Ms Badmus reached out to him after a media report on the offence committed against him by the police officer.

"I was called from Zone 2 by Dolapo Badmus, the spokesperson. When I got to her office, she asked me what happened and I explained. She said I should go and that they will call me back,” he told the panel.

The petitioner stated that he wrote a petition to Zone 2 headquarters and was received by the office of the then AIG, Mr Aderanti who is now retired.

When asked who is still within the police force he can call to bear him witness, and put much light on the case, he mentioned CSP Dolapo Badmos, the then Police PRO of the zone 2.

Doris Okuwobi, chairperson of the panel, said the summon should be served on Badmus and that the police counsel should ensure that the summon get to her.

The Panel then sent a written witness summon to the former PPRO and copied the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

The case was adjourned till January 15 when Ms. Badmus is expected to appear before the panel.

As at the time of filing this report, we are not aware whether CSP Dolapo has received the letter from the panel, as the bureaucracy of regimented authority will not allow the officer to appear before the panel without official directives to do so.
