FOUR INJURED IN RIVERS STATE BUILDING COLLAPSE, GOVERNOR ORDERS IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION
The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has shown his displeasure over the collapse of a building at Rumuoke Street, off Okilton junction on Ada George Road, Port Harcourt, and therefore ordered an immediate investigation into the causes of its collapse.
The information available indicates that the building collapsed in the early hour of 29th June 2023 while under construction, and injured four persons.
Following the inspection of the Commissioner for Special Projects, Engr. Emeka Woke to the collapsed two-story building, the governor charged the relevant government agencies to immediately question those involved in the project to bring anyone culpable to book.
The government agency in charge; The Ministry of Urban Development is to take immediate action by conducting site investigations, site inspections, destructive testing and non-destructive testing of collapsed structural element to establish their strength by the determination of the yield strength of the reinforcements and sieve analysis of the soil at the site, to ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the building collapse.
Meanwhile, the governor has vowed to prosecute the engineers involved if any compromise is detected in the materials for the building. Hence, they will serve as a deterrent to others.
