GEORGE FLOYD: INDEPENDENT AUTOPSY AND OFFICIALS DIFFER ON FLOYD'S CAUSE OF DEATH
On Monday, two autopsy results emerged as regards the cause of Geroge Floyd's death. According to independent experts hired by Floyd's family, his death was a homicide caused by "asphyxiation from sustained pressure".
However, according to the report of the medical examiner's office, Floyd's death was a homicide caused by "cardiopulmonary arrest".
According to the independent experts' findings, George Floyd died because of the pressure put on his back and neck by the Minneapolis police officers, which cut off blood flow to his brain.
The medical examiner's findings made no reference to asphyxiation. Instead, it says Floyd died because his heart failed. According to the report, Floyd had "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression."
Hennepin County also hinted that drug use contributed to Floyd's death. According to its report, fentanyl and methamphetamine were among "significant conditions" that contributed to Floyd's death.
Reacting to the development, Floyd family attorney Antonio Romanucci told CNN "whether or not he was intoxicated or had medications in his system is irrelevant to the cause of death, which is homicide, which is death by the hand of another."
George Floyd was killed on Monday, May 25 when Minnesota police officers pinned him to the ground and one put a knee on his neck till he fell unconscious.
Protests have been going on throughout the US after a video of the encounter was posted on social media, and Floyd could be heard saying "I can't breathe."
Derek Chauvin, the police officer who kneeled on Floyd's neck, has been fired and charged with third-degree murder but the protesters also want the other three officers involved to face charges as well.
