GOVERNOR BABAJIDE SANWO OLU RESPONDS TO ALLEGATIONS OF POLICE/SARS EXPLOITATION
The Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo Olu has promised to address the issue of exploitation and corrupt practices of police officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad SARS Immediately.
Governor Sanwo-Olu disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, October 4.
"The safety of our residents is my number one duty as the CSO of Lagos. So, reading reports of seemingly unlawful exploitation by the people charged to protect is very worrying & needs to be addressed immediately. Be assured that appropriate actions will be taken, & speedily too," Governor Sanwo-Olu said.
The Governor's statement is coming on the heels of a growing campaign against the the police special anti robbery unit.
Many youths across the country complain that SARS officers harrass and exploit them for owning an iPhone, or dressing neatly.
Many others allege that SARS officers accost them, forcefully go through their phones, read their messages including their bank statements, then force them to part with money.
