Gunmen Ambush Police Convoy, Kidnap VIP in Abia

Gunmen attacked a police escort team along the Azumini-Ndoki road in Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State on Tuesday, shooting a VIP and his driver before abducting them.

Sergeant Jude Gubi, along with ASP Tanko Natip and Inspector Ernest, had been assigned to escort Chief Lawson, a high-profile individual.

According to sources, the team was returning to Port Harcourt from Arochukwu when they were ambushed around 7:00 p.m. at Mkapjekere Ndoki.

Report revealed that the attackers, traveling in a dark blue Sienna, blocked the convoy, which comprised a black Land Cruiser (registration number KPR 627 TH) and a white Toyota Hilux (registration number YAB 115 CE). The assailants immediately opened fire, prompting the police officers to retaliate.

“The gunmen ordered the VIP to enter their vehicle, but he refused. In response, they shot him and his driver before abducting them,” a source disclosed.

Security forces have since intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of the kidnapped victims.
