GUNMEN KIDNAP MEDICAL CONSULTANT, BOLT DRIVER IN CALABAR
Unknown gunmen on Thursday, December 10, abducted a Consultant Cardiologist, Dr Vincent Uhegbu Maduka and a Bolt driver in Calabar, the capital of Cross River.
Dr Maduka who works with the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital was kidnapped at his gate by gunmen who laid siege in his home at Eta Agbo layout and took him to an unknown destination.
Confirming the incident , Dr Innocent Abang, the Nigerian Medical Association Chairman in the State said that doctors have commenced an indefinite strike to demand the release of their colleague.

“There is a standing resolution by NMA in the state that doctors would proceed on indefinite strike once a doctor is kidnapped to press for the immediate release of such a victim”.
He said the association was fed up with the constant abduction of doctors by gumen to demand what he calls "blood money".
Source says that the assailants kidnapped the Bolt driver along Ndidem Usang Iso Road but later released him at the Marian Market when they discovered he was not their target.
Speaking on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River, Ms Irene Ugbo, said a manhunt operation has been launched to rescue the doctor.
There have been incessant cases of abductions in Cross River State lately, especially against health workers.
Earlier in November, the Nigerian Medical Association in Cross River said four doctors were kidnapped at various times in the State this year.
One Dr Godwin Udo who is with the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital,UCTH, was abducted from his residence at Bateba street in Calabar South on Sunday November 1,2020.

The incident made the NMA in Cross River State direct its members to down tools until Dr. Godwin Udo is set free by his kidnappers.
It would be recalled that Senator Ben Ayade, the Governor of the State had launched Operation Okparaku a few days ago to combat incessant cases of kidnappings and armed robbery in the State.
