Age Falsification Costs Two Judges Their Jobs, NJC Recommends Compulsory Retirement
The National Judicial Council (NJC), at its 107th meeting, has sanctioned five judicial officers over various acts of misconduct.
Hon. Justice G. C. Aguma of the Rivers State High Court and Hon. Justice A. O. Nwabunike of the Anambra State High Court were each suspended from performing judicial functions for one year without pay. Both justices were also placed on a two-year “Watch-List” following the suspension period.
Additionally, the NJC recommended the compulsory retirement of two judicial officers for falsifying their ages. The affected officers are Hon. Justice T. E. Chukwuemeka Chikeka, Chief Judge of Imo State, and Hon. Kadi Babagana Mahdi, Grand Kadi of Yobe State.
The NJC also reviewed the report of its Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committee, which handled 30 petitions. While 22 were dismissed for lacking merit and two were declared sub judice, the Council empaneled six committees to investigate the remaining cases.
Furthermore, the NJC has constituted a committee to investigate complaints and petitions against Hon. Justice O. A. Ojo, Chief Judge of Osun State.
