GUNMEN KILL ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER OF POLICE IN CROSS RIVER

Reports indicate that unknown gunmen on Wednesday December 2, killed an Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Egbe Eko Edum, in Calabar, Cross River State capital.


According to reports, ACP Edum, the Commanding Officer of No. 73 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron, Magumeri, Borno State, was axed in cold blood around 1am near his house along Murtala Mohammed Highway by Pepsi, Calabar.


The victim, who was serving in Borno State, had just arrived Calabar from Abuja where he attended a meeting with the Inspector General of Police, IGP, and other security agents.

DSP Irene Ugbo, the State’s Police PRO, who confirmed the incident, said Edum’s car broke down on the highway, and while he was trying to call his family to come pick him up, he was attacked by the gunmen and hacked to death.


She said: “That unfortunate incident is true, I just confirmed it now. He is an Assistant Commissioner of Police who served in Borno State; he is not serving here. I think he was coming to see his family here in Cross River, he arrived Calabar as at about 1:am when the incident happened.”


“I learnt that they used axe on him. I don’t know his name; investigations will be launched”.


She added that his remains have been deposited at the mortuary, and said investigations have commenced to arrest and prosecute his murderers.

This comes barely 24 hours after suspected looters reportedly shot a DPO in Benue State.
