GUNMEN KILL FIVE PERSONS IN PLATEAU STATE

Residents of Gwol village grief as unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have killed five persons in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.


This attack comes barely one week after some gunmen gruesomely murdered a traditional leader in the State, Da Bulus Chuwang Jang on Monday, September 20.


The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Gabriel Ubah, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Friday, September 25, 2020.


He said the gunmen, numbering about 20, stormed a drinking joint on Thursday at about 10:45 pm at Gwol village in K/Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.


The PPRO revealed the gunmen opened fire on all occupants in the joint and killed five persons on the spot.


Ubah said the Plateau State Police command has commenced full investigations into the attack and that the State Commissioner of Police has visited the scene of the incident.

He added that normalcy has been restored to the community and more security personnel have been deployed to the area to maintain law and order.


Reacting to the incident, Coordinator Emancipation Crisis Victims in Nigeria, Barrister Dalyop Solomon, strongly condemned the recent attacks in some parts of the State and urged the Government and security agencies to ensure they put an end to this menace


He said; “It is unfortunate that we are experiencing this kind of attack after months of respite. The government and the security agencies need to wade in on time before it degenerated to full-scale violence. There’s the need for thorough investigation, arrest and prosecution of those behind this deadly attack”.


It is pertinent to note that gunmen also attacked a mining site on Tuesday, September 21, 2020, in Riyom Council area, Jos, and injured nine miners.
