IGP Commissions Nigeria Police Intelligence School in Kwara State

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, today commissioned the newly completed Nigeria Police Intelligence School located in Share, Kwara State. The landmark event marks a significant stride in strengthening the intelligence capacity of the Nigeria Police Force and enhancing the nation’s overall security framework.

The IGP was joined at the commissioning by senior officers, including Deputy Inspectors-General of Police Benjamin Nebeolisa Okolo (Force Intelligence Department) and Adebola Ayinde Hamzat (Department of Logistics and Supply), as well as the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi.


Representing the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, CON, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi Bata, commended the IGP for establishing the school in the state. He described it as a bold initiative aimed at equipping the police with modern tools and techniques to combat crime effectively.

The Nigeria Police Intelligence School is designed to serve as a training hub for officers and operatives in intelligence gathering, analysis, cybercrime investigations, forensic science, and counter-terrorism. The school will also be open to personnel from other security and intelligence agencies.


Speaking during the commissioning, IGP Egbetokun emphasized the need for a proactive, intelligence-led, and community-oriented policing strategy. He pledged that the school would begin operations immediately and function at full capacity, ensuring officers are well-trained to confront emerging threats across the country.

Later in the day, the IGP delivered the maiden CPSS Distinguished Alumni Public Lecture at Al-Hikmah University’s Centre for Peace and Security Studies (CPSS) in Kwara State. In his lecture titled “Effective Policing of Nigeria for Sustainable Peace and Development: Role of Stakeholders,” he highlighted the importance of continuous capacity building and the integration of technology in modern policing.


He stressed that effective security goes beyond kinetic force, encompassing environmental, economic, human, and food security, and called for enhanced collaboration between the Police, academic institutions, and local communities to create a safer Nigeria.


The IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening intelligence-driven operations and called on the public to support law enforcement by installing CCTV systems and leveraging other lawful technologies to assist in crime prevention and national safety.
