IGP Egbetokun Commissions 59 Armoured Vehicles for Enhanced Tactical Operations
The operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) received a major boost on Friday, September 26, 2025, as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commissioned fifty-nine (59) Armoured Toyota Hilux Vehicles at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The purpose-built vehicles—engineered to withstand hostile fire, endure harsh terrains, and provide superior speed, durability, and protection—are expected to significantly enhance the capabilities of the Force’s tactical and special units in high-risk operations.
In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun underscored that the credibility of the NPF will continue to be earned through results-driven policing. He described the commissioning as timely, noting that insecurity across Africa is evolving in both complexity and intensity, with Nigeria facing similar challenges.
The IGP stressed that the vehicles are not ceremonial assets but strategic reinforcements aimed at strengthening operations, enhancing intelligence gathering, and improving accountability at all levels of the Force.
Charging commanders and tactical operatives, Egbetokun directed that the vehicles must never be left idle while citizens remain at risk. He emphasized that every deployment must be lawful, proportionate, and decisive, warning that criminal elements will no longer find safe havens anywhere in the country.
The Police Chief assured Nigerians that the deployment of the vehicles will soon translate into declining crime rates and heightened public confidence in the Force’s ability to safeguard lives and property.
