IGP, MOHAMMED ADAMU ORDERS POLICE CHIEFS TO RESIST ALL VIOLENT PERSONS OR GROUPS OPERATING UNDER ANY GUISE

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has ordered all Police Chiefs in the country to resist all violent persons or groups operating under any guise.


In a statement on Saturday, November 7, he ordered the deployment of all security personnel to protect lives and properties of citizens.


Adamu also urged all police operatives to prevent attacks on both private and public assets


The Police Chief who ordered all Command Commissioners of Police and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to resist all violent persons, said his directive is in line with Section 33 (1) & (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 which among other things provides for the use of  force.


He noted that the use of force is necessary for the defence of any person from unlawful violence or for the defence of property, in order to effect a lawful arrest or to prevent the escape of a person lawfully detained, and for the purpose of suppressing a riot, insurrection or mutiny.

The IGP affirmed that police operatives will not tolerate a repeat of the horrendous attacks, killings, arson and wanton destruction, and looting of public and private assets witnessed during the recent violent protests in some parts of the country.


He warns that the Force shall deploy the full weight of the law and legitimate force in preventing a reoccurrence.


Recall that in the wake of the ENDSARS protests and the violence that escalated from it, a total of 51 civilian fatalities and 37 civilian injuries were recorded, while a total of 22 policemen were gruesomely murdered and 26 others injured by the protesters. 


205 police stations, corporate facilities and private property were attacked, burnt and vandalized.

Also, on Thursday, November 5, Eons Intelligence reported that the Lagos State Police Command  vowed to resist all forms of protest in the State. 


The warning came on the heels of a planned #endsars protest scheduled for Saturday, November 7, where a group of protesters are calling for justice for the alleged extrajudicial murder of #endsars protesters.
