IGP Reshuffles Security Chiefs, Moves to Enhance Election and School Safety
In a bid to strengthen internal security and enhance rapid response to violent crimes, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has appointed Commissioner of Police (CP) Abayomi Shogunle as the new head of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, and the Safe School Protection Squad. Similarly, the IGP has assigned Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Chima Ogarashi as the new Force Marine Officer (FMO), a role critical to securing Nigeria’s inland waterways.
CP Shogunle, an experienced officer with expertise in operations and public relations, will oversee the SIS in tackling security threats and ensure the effective coordination of election security and school safety programs. Meanwhile, CSP Ogarashi, known for his background in maritime security and enforcement, will spearhead efforts to enhance law enforcement on Nigeria’s waterways.
These appointments come as the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) prepares to unveil 25 newly acquired gunboats as part of a broader initiative to strengthen maritime security. The Force is also advancing plans to procure additional maritime safety equipment, reinforcing efforts to combat criminal activities along inland and coastal waterways.
The IGP reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring the public of sustained efforts to counter security threats and uphold national stability.
