INTERNAL SECURITY: POLICE RESCUE FIVE KIDNAP VICTIMS, NEUTRALIZE SUSPECTED BANDITS, RECOVER ARMS AND AMMUNITION
The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major successes in recent anti-crime operations, rescuing five kidnapped victims, neutralizing five suspected kidnappers, and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition in coordinated operations across Kebbi and Abia States.
In Kebbi State, police operatives working with other security agencies and local vigilantes mounted a rescue mission after armed men stormed Sangara Village, Shanga Local Government Area, on July 27, 2025, and abducted three residents: Muhammad Nasamu Namata (25), Gide Namata (20), and Hamidu Alhaji Namani (35). The kidnappers were traced to Shanga Hills, where a fierce gun battle ensued. Outgunned, the criminals retreated into the forest with gunshot wounds, leaving the victims to be safely rescued.
In a separate operation on August 15, 2025, police operatives on patrol around Dankade Village, Ribah District, in Danko/Wasagu LGA, confronted armed bandits. During the exchange, two victims — Tukur Bello (26) and Isyaka Abubakar (25) — who had been abducted while grazing cattle in Gairi Forest, Zamfara State, on August 9, were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families.
Meanwhile, in Abia State, operatives acting on credible intelligence stormed a kidnappers’ den at Umuiku Obete Village, Ukwa West LGA. The gang, notorious for terrorizing commuters along Umuozo Village and Uratta Road near Port Harcourt Road, opened fire on sighting the team. The operatives overpowered them in a sustained gun battle, neutralizing five members of the syndicate.
A subsequent search of the hideout led to the recovery of:
Six AK-47 rifles
335 rounds of live ammunition
14 magazines
Five mobile phones
Three cutlasses
Five operational jackets
An axe
A pair of boots
One polo charm
One double-barreled long gun
Follow-up operations are underway to track fleeing gang members.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the officers for their professionalism and bravery, charging them to maintain momentum in the fight against criminality. He reassured Nigerians of the Force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property while intensifying nationwide security operations.
