KANO STATE POLICE CRACK DOWN ON MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT - FIFTEEN SUSPECTS ARRESTED

In a significant stride towards ensuring the safety of residents, the Kano State Police Command has intensified its efforts to combat the rising cases of motor vehicle theft in the state. Over the past month, the Command has successfully arrested fifteen suspected motor vehicle thieves and recovered a total of twenty stolen vehicles.


In adherence to the directives of Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, the Kano State Police Command implemented Community-based Policing, intelligence-led policing, and displayed professional competence in executing its operations.


One of the notable incidents involved the interception of a stolen Honda Pilot Black vehicle on 29/11/2023 along Obasanjo Road, Kano. The driver, Abdullahi Jamilu, confessed to stealing the vehicle from Pacco Car Wash in Kaduna State. The owner has been traced, and the case is currently under investigation.


Another successful operation on 22/11/2023 led to the arrest of Ishaq Yusha’u, who stole a Honda Civic 98 model in Gwammaja Quarters, Kano. The vehicle was recovered, and the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.


Additionally, the State Police conducted operations resulting in the recovery of stolen vehicles and apprehension of suspects involved in armed attacks and robberies. Notably, Yusuf Yusuf, a member of a gang involved in armed robberies, was arrested with stolen vehicles, ammunition, and anti-tracker machines.


In a separate incident on 16/11/2023, a suspected fraudster attempted to deceive by pretending to transfer money after refueling a Honda Accord 2008 Model. Fortunately, the individual was recognized, and the stolen vehicle was recovered, with an ongoing investigation.


The Commissioner of Police, in response to reports from citizens, directed tactical teams to swiftly apprehend suspects and recover stolen vehicles. These efforts have yielded positive results, reinforcing the commitment of the Kano State Police Command to maintaining law and order.


Several cases are currently under investigation, and the police urge the public to provide any relevant information that could assist in solving these crimes. The Command remains resolute in its mission to create a safe and secure environment for all residents of Kano State.
