Military pressure forces 17 JAS family members to surrender to troops in Borno
Sustained offensive operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have led to the voluntary surrender of 17 family members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) in separate incidents across Borno State, as military pressure continues to weaken terrorist elements in the North East.
According to the military, the first incident occurred at about 9:15 a.m. on 4th August, 2026, when 16 JAS family members—comprising 10 women and six children—voluntarily surrendered to troops of 222 Battalion during a domination patrol along the Gezuwa axis in Konduga Local Government Area.
During preliminary debriefing, the surrendered individuals said the sustained offensive operations against terrorist enclaves compelled them to lay down their allegiance. Troops also recovered N92,000 from the group.
In a related development, at about 12:04 p.m. on the same day, an 11-year-old JAS family member voluntarily surrendered to troops of 202 Battalion under Sector 1 in Bama Local Government Area.
The minor also attributed the decision to surrender to the sustained operational pressure being mounted by troops against terrorist elements in the theatre.
The military said all 17 individuals are currently in custody undergoing preliminary profiling and debriefing before being handed over to the appropriate authorities for further screening, rehabilitation where applicable, and other administrative procedures in line with established guidelines.
The latest surrender was described as a direct outcome of the military's sustained offensive aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves, disrupting logistics and communication networks, and denying insurgents freedom of movement across the North East.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining aggressive operations against terrorist groups while continuing to facilitate the safe and voluntary surrender of individuals willing to renounce terrorism in accordance with established procedures.
