NDLEA ARRESTS MAN WHO CONCEALED INDIAN HEMP IN BAGS OF GARRI
The Edo Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday, May 4, arrested a man who attempted to smuggle 83kg dried substance suspected to be Indian hemp inside sacks of garri out of the State.
The NDLEA operatives intercepted the culprit at Aviele trailer park, Etsako West Local Government Area the State.
The Commander of the Agency in the State, Mr. Buba Wakawa, disclosed this in a statement while commending the operatives for a successful operation carried out in Benin City, the State capital.
According to Wakawa, the operation was carried out by the operatives of the Auchi Command following a quality human intelligence report which exposed the location of the smuggler.
“Officers raided the popular trailer park at Aviele where the dried weeds of cannabis hidden inside eight (8) sacks of garri were intercepted while preparing to smuggle the drugs out of the State. This is a very successful operation and I commend the officers for their commitment and ingenuity”.
The commander said that after a thorough investigation, it was revealed that a local smuggling cartel in the area was in charge of the exhibit.
The commander threatened to make any drug trafficker face the wrath of the law if caught.
“This way, we will continue to subject drug traffickers to the laws of the country to serve as a deterrent to others who might be tempted to indulge in drug trafficking” the commander warned.
