LEAKED POLICE BODY CAM SHOWS GEORGE FLOYD'S ARREST AND DEATH FROM A NEW PERSPECTIVE

A new video has emerged online showing never before seen footage of incidents leading to the arrest and death of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man who died after an officer kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes in May.

The video which was exclusively shared by a UK newspaper, Daily Mail on Monday, August 3, showed footage from cameras worn by two now-former Minneapolis police officers involved in Floyd's arrest on May 25 in the United States.

In the video, a man complained to the police saying someone gave him a fake bill. He also identified that the culprit was linked to the blue car on the other side of the road.

The footage went on to show the police trying to arrest George Floyd.

An officer could be seen going to the driver's side, while another approached Floyd from the other side. Floyd could be heard repeating the words "I'm sorry".

A police officer told him to put his hands up, which he did.

Then another pointed a gun at Floyd's face, eliciting a look of fear.

While the police handcuffed him, Floyd kept obeying their orders while constantly apologising and pleading "Please don't shoot me." "I just lost my mom, man," he said at some point.

Matters took a turn when the officers attempted to put Floyd into the back of a police car. He refused, saying:

"I'm claustrophobic. I'm not that kind of guy. Don't leave me all by myself, sir. I'm claustrophobic. Please stay with me. "I'm claustrophobic" "Y'all, I am going to die in here," "I'm going to die, man. I just had COVID, man. I don't want to go back to that."

The police officers kept instructing him to take a seat in the car. One of the officers said he would roll the windows so he can relax a little. But Floyd was too apprehensive to calm down.

As the officers tried to force him into the car, Floyd became more frantic and kept screaming "I can't breathe.

The officers finally move Floyd into the back of the vehicle and close the driver's side door, but he emerged through the door on the other side of the car.

The video showed Floyd struggling with the police officers who ended up pinning him on the ground with an officer now identified as Chauvin kneeling on his neck for 8 minutes, 46 seconds.

George Floyd's death sparked off nationwide protests in America with thousands trooping out to protest his killing and the deaths of other African Americans at the hands of police. It also reignited the #theblacklivesmatter movement.

The four police officers involved have been dismissed from the police.

Derek Chauvin, the officer who put a knee on Floyd's neck, has been charged with second-degree murder while the three other officers involved in Floyd's death were also charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

This video leaked by the Daily Mall gives a clearer understanding of what prompted the police to pin George Floyd. The footage from the police body-worn cameras of Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng was filed with the court on July 7 by Lane's attorney as evidence supporting his motion to dismiss the charges against the former officer, but only the written transcripts were made public by the court at the time.

Peter Cahill, the Judge presiding over the cases, made the body camera footage from Lane and Kueng available for limited in-person viewing at the court July 15.
