NDLEA Dismantles Drug Syndicate Accused of Hiding Illicit Drugs in Passengers' Luggage

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered a drug trafficking syndicate accused of secretly concealing illicit drugs inside the luggage of unsuspecting passengers at motor parks.

The operation, carried out by NDLEA officers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in collaboration with their counterparts in Anambra State, followed the interception of a consignment of suspected methamphetamine weighing 467.7 grams.

According to the agency, the illicit substance was discovered on Saturday, June 20, 2026, during the search of a commercial Sienna bus travelling from Nnewi, Anambra State, to Abuja. The interception took place at Abaji in the FCT.

Investigators found the suspected methamphetamine concealed inside a black nylon bag, which had been hidden within a sack containing clothes. The package bore the phone number of the intended recipient.

A follow-up operation led to the arrest of the supposed receiver, identified as Gloria Peter, at Utako Motor Park in Abuja. However, she denied any knowledge of the package, insisting it had been placed in her luggage without her consent.

Her claim prompted investigators to widen the probe, leading to the arrest of loaders attached to the commercial bus in Nnewi. During interrogation, one of the suspects allegedly admitted that he placed the drug package inside the woman's luggage on the instruction of the bus driver, identified as Abdurrazak Isah.

Further investigation reportedly led the driver to identify one of the passengers, Onyebuchi Victor Okoye, as the alleged owner of the illicit consignment. NDLEA operatives subsequently arrested the suspect during another follow-up operation at Utako Motor Park in the Federal Capital Territory.

The agency said investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire network and prosecute all those found to be connected with the trafficking operation.
