New Security Pact: MNJTF and Cameroon’s Emergence 4 Boost Cross-Border Counter-Terrorism

In a renewed drive to combat insecurity in the Lake Chad region, the Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Godwin Mutkut, and the Commander of Cameroon’s Operation Emergence 4, Major General Saleh Mahamadou, have pledged to strengthen collaboration against terrorist threats.

The commitment was made during a strategic operational visit by General Mutkut to the headquarters of Operation Emergence 4. The MNJTF Commander emphasized the shared threat posed by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists, which have devastated communities in the Lake Chad Basin for over 15 years. He described the visit as an opportunity for both forces to align operational strategies and confront common security challenges together.

General Mutkut noted that the renewed synergy would extend beyond the two commands, calling on all troop-contributing countries and regional stakeholders to reinforce the joint mission’s objectives.

In his remarks, General Mahamadou praised the MNJTF’s efforts in stabilizing the region and reaffirmed the readiness of Cameroonian forces to enhance cooperation, share intelligence, and conduct joint operations.

The Force Commander also paid a courtesy call to the Governor of Cameroon’s Far North Region, His Excellency Midjiyawa Bakari, assuring him of improved counter-terrorism operations in the area.

This renewed partnership signals a pivotal step toward regional security, demonstrating a united resolve to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace to communities across the Lake Chad Basin.
