NIGERIA BEGINS COVID 19 VACCINATION
Nigeria on Friday flagged off the COVID-19 vaccination of its citizens.
Boss Mustapha, the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation flagged off the exercise on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Doctor Ngong Cyprian, a medical doctor who has been one of the frontline workers since the outbreak of the pandemic, was the first person to receive a jab of the AstraZeneca/Oxford Covid 19 vaccine in the country.
Recall Nigeria on Tuesday received about four million doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine.
Speaking after his vaccination, Dr Ngong, said he wished his father had the chance to take the vaccine before he died of the Coronavirus. He said,

“We’ve been at the forefront here in National Hospital at the Isolation Centre under the able leadership of the National Hospital. They’ve provided everything we need for this fight. We’ve lost some, we’ve got some and we are happy we are getting the vaccines now in Nigeria. That is about the best news we’ve heard since. I only wished my dad had had this vaccine may be months ago or so. We lost him but we thank God and the fight is still on and we will win.”
President Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo have been scheduled to publicly receive shots of the vaccines on Saturday so as to encourage Nigerians to voluntarily take the jab while the 36 state Governors under the aegis of Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have agreed to take the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, alongside their deputies.
The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) on Monday announced that the Nigerian Government has launched a website for citizens to register to receive the Coronavirus vaccine.
