Nigeria Congratulates Donald Trump on Inauguration as 47th U.S. President, Pledges Stronger Ties

The Federal Government has extended its congratulations to Donald Trump on his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States of America.

The message was conveyed through a statement issued by Kimiebi Ebienfa, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the statement, the government emphasized the strong and historic ties between Nigeria and the United States, highlighting their collaborative efforts in promoting good governance, sustainable development, and combating terrorism and violent extremism.

Nigeria expressed its commitment to enhancing its strategic partnership with the United States under President Trump's administration, with a focus on advancing the interests and well-being of citizens from both nations. The statement also underscored Nigeria’s anticipation of continued collaboration in addressing global challenges and fostering mutual growth.

The statement read:

“The Federal Republic of Nigeria congratulates President Donald Trump on his successful inauguration as the 47th President of the United States of America.

“Nigeria and the United States of America have long enjoyed cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, particularly in the promotion of good governance, sustainable development, and the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

“Nigeria therefore looks forward to further strengthening our historic and vibrant strategic partnership for the benefit of all our people.”

Trump was sworn in on Monday during a historic ceremony held inside the Capitol Rotunda due to adverse weather conditions. As reported by CNN, he took the oath of office administered by Chief Justice John Roberts of the Supreme Court, pledging to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.
