Nigerian Army Probes Viral Troop Feeding Video, COAS Orders Immediate Investigation

The Nigerian Army has initiated an immediate investigation following the circulation of a viral video on social media allegedly showing soldiers expressing dissatisfaction over the quality and quantity of food items provided to them by their higher command.

The video, which has sparked widespread reactions across digital and mainstream platforms, features personnel displaying food items purportedly sent from their command. While the authenticity and full context of the video remain under verification, the Army has assured the public that the issue is being addressed with utmost seriousness.

In response, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered a thorough and transparent inquiry to uncover the facts behind the incident. According to a statement released by Army Headquarters, the outcome of the investigation will be made public in line with the COAS’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

Reaffirming his leadership philosophy—"To Consolidate the Transformation of the Nigerian Army Towards Bequeathing a Well-Motivated and Combat-Ready Force..."—General Oluyede emphasized that troop welfare remains his highest priority. This commitment, he noted, is further embedded in the recently launched “Soldier First” initiative, which places the well-being, dignity, and operational readiness of soldiers at the center of Army policies.

The Army has also reminded personnel of the importance of using appropriate military channels to express concerns, particularly regarding welfare. It warned that the use of unauthorized platforms to voice operational grievances is contrary to military discipline and professionalism.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its resolve to uphold leadership accountability, institutional integrity, and the highest standards of troop welfare in pursuit of its constitutional mandate.
