NIGERIAN JUDICIARY GOES DIGITAL AS FEDERAL HIGH COURT RELEASES GUIDELINES FOR VIRTUAL PROCEEDINGS

Nigerian judiciary goes digital as the Federal High Court authorised and released guidelines for virtual proceedings.

The Chief Judge of the FHC, Hon. Justice John Tsoho in a release on Monday approved cases to be heard virtually on Zoom, Skype or any other audio-visual means approved by the court effective Monday, May 18.

“Virtual proceeding is hereby adopted for adjudication in the Federal High Court.

“Virtual proceedings can be either by Zoom, Skype or any other audio-visual platform approved by the Court,” the directive said.

According to the new directive, service of court processes and service of hearing notices can be effected through emails, Whatsapp, text messages or by any other electronic means and the print out would be considered as sufficient evidence.

In keeping with the Federal Government directive on practising social distancing, the new directive states that everyone in the Court premises must put on a face mask and keep a distance of 2 metres apart from each other.

Also, more than ten people can no longer stay at a time in the court premises except for purposes of court sittings.
