NMA ELECTION TURNS BLOODY IN ENUGU
The Enugu State Chapter of the Nigerian Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) took a dangerous turn on Thursday, August 6th, 2020, as the State election turned bloody.
It is believed that the leadership crisis in the State chapter of the association and the alleged suspension of the Chairman and counter-suspension of members of the opposing group led to the brawl.
Some members of the association who gathered at the Michael Okpara square for the election suffered serious injuries from thugs who invaded the venue.
According to reports, the thugs, numbering over thirty, stormed the venue with dangerous weapons when voting was going on and started destroying chairs, tables and canopies among other objects being used for the election.
They upturned the ballot boxes and pounced on members of the electoral committee leading to the doctors scampering for safety.
While some sustained injuries, others including the NMA chairman in the State, Dr Ike Okwesili were thoroughly beaten.
