NO FEMALE POLICE OFFICER WILL BE EJECTED FROM BARRACKS FOR RESIDING WITH CIVILIAN SPOUSE - IGP

The Nigeria Police Force has discredited reports making the rounds to the effect that its Officers and men who reside in its barracks with civilian spouses have been ordered to vacate the premises or be forcefully ejected.

Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali, via a signal perised by Eons intelligence on Thursday indicates that the information is untrue and maliciously misleading. He therefore ordered an immediate investigation into the origin of the farication, with a resolve to bring the purveyors of the fake news to face the law.

The IGP assured that no female Police Officer in Police Barracks or any other official quarter for that matter across the country would be ejected for residing with a civilian spouse.

He said the fake and misleading signal purportedly originated from the Enugu State Police Command. The signal is said to have stated that women Police personnel occupying barracks accommodation with their civilian husbands should vacate before 31st January, 2022.

The Police authorities said the IGP is "Miffed with the said directive." It described the false signal as "Unlawful, discriminatory, obnoxious, reprehensive and totally out of tune with the concept of equality as enshrined in our Constitution."

He also stated that the false directive is not in line with the "Force Gender Policy which institutionalizes gender mainstreaming as a core value in the Nigeria Police".

"A Police Force that has produced several top-ranking, successful female Officers, including Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs), Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), State Command Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, DPOs, eminent Spokespersons, an Olympic Gold Medallist, amongst others, will never walk such a retrogressive path", the IGP added.

Consequently, the IGP ordered the Force Provost Marshal to carry out immediate investigations into the viral document and assured that stern disciplinary action would be taken against any person, people or group found to be the originators or purveyors of such a sexist, divisive and criminally fabricated statement.

He called on Nigerians in general and female Police Officers and their families in particular, who might have been disturbed as a result of the unconscientious directive, to ignore same as the said illegal order is null, void and of no effect whatsoever.

He said the Force remains committed to advancing the general well-being, rights and privileges of its personnel, irrespective of rank, office, marital status or gender.
