OGUN STATE POLICE COMMAND ARRESTS TWO MEMBERS OF EIYE CONFRATERNITY UNLEASHING TERROR IN SAGAMU

The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested two members of the Eiye Confraternity unleashing terror on some communities in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.


The State's Police Spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, August 16th, 2020.


Oyeyemi said the suspects, Oladayo Bello, 34, and Awobajo Muritala, 40, were arrested last week Tuesday when the police stormed their hideout in the area.


He revealed the arrest of the suspects followed information received by the Divisional Police Officer, Ogijo, CSP Muhammed Baba, that a group of Eiye Confraternity members were gathering at the Kanniyi area of Shimawa.

The Police Spokesperson said the suspects were planning to attack some communities in the area.


“On the strength of the information, the DPO led his operatives to the already identified hideout, where no less than 20 members of the group were met with various types of weapons.


“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums opened fire on them and ran in various directions in a bid to escape.


“The operatives restrained from firing back to avoid killing innocent members of the public, but they chased after the hoodlums and apprehended two of them," Oyeyemi said.


The spokesperson said two cut-to-size guns, five live cartridges, two expended cartridges, one battle axe, assorted charms, and weeds suspected to be indian hemp were recovered from the criminals.


He said that the State Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.


According to the Spokesperson, the Commissioner ordered that the fleeing members of the group must be found and brought to justice.
