Operation Safe Haven Gets New Name: Enduring Peace
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has officially rebranded Operation SAFE HAVEN to Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP). The announcement was made in Jos during the flag-off ceremony of the newly renamed operation.
General Musa noted that while Operation SAFE HAVEN had played a pivotal role in stabilizing communities affected by decades of violence, the new name reflects a broader mandate and stronger resolve to secure not just temporary safety but lasting peace. He stressed that the rebranded operation would focus on inter-agency collaboration, intelligence-driven operations, and community engagement, ensuring a whole-of-society approach to security.
The General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander JTF OPEP, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, described the rebranding as a strategic realignment to make operations more proactive and results-oriented. He urged community leaders, civil society groups, and residents to partner with the Task Force to achieve lasting peace.
Chief of Defence Operations, Major General EV Onumajuru, added that JTF OPEP would close operational gaps by enhancing early warning mechanisms and dominating ungoverned spaces with community support.
The event featured the inspection of a quarter guard, decoration of the Commander with the new JTF OPEP badge, hoisting of the operation’s flag, and an address to troops of 3 Division and JTF OPEP.
